A Poem
How would a frail body feel to your touch?
If I could,
I would,
Deconstruct my frame
And then rebuild it in clumps.
How do you reveal a skeleton
That’s hiding in the closet?
If I could,
I would,
Wrap it in hangers
And sweaters
And shirts.
How do you make a tortoise look pretty When it doesn’t have a shell?
If I could,
I would,
Paint it in strokes and brushes:
A dazzling green.
How do you reconcile with a mirror that doesn’t love you?
If I could,
I would,
Smash it into pieces
So I never have to live with myself again.
